Billboard attacked again

BY Netani Rika

TWO weeks into the election period and despite police investigations, vandals continue to attack billboards bearing the image of Fiji’s Prime Minister, Rear-Admiral Frank Bainimarama.

On Monday night, a group of young men aged between 20 and 30 stood in the darkness and hurled mud at a billboard on a busy road in the Fijian capital, Suva.

Passers by laughed at the young men and some cheered the action which has been slated by Fiji First as acts by the Opposition.

However, passers-by reported that the action appeared to be spontaneous and unrelated to any political parties.

Last week there were three attacks on two billboards between Lami and Suva.

There was wide coverage of the attacks on social media.

Police immediately detained a group of young men and questioned them over the incidents.

No arrests have been made.

Sources within the police said similar reports had been received in the West and North of the country.
