James Marape is the Papua New Guinea’s opposition party’s nominee as the alternative Prime Minister.
“We are ready to change this country with transparency and accountability as the order of the day,” Marape said after his nomination was announced by Opposition leader Patrick Pruaitch last night .
“When ministers of state concede to not being part of the prime minister’s cabinet run solely by someone who has personal interests that is not in the interest of the country, then that is indication of what has gone wrong and we have had to come out,” Marape continued.
He said they forged unity and the opposition in coming out in one accord and giving their support to him to be Prime Minister.
“For that I am comforted having experience by my side.”
The alternate government camp plans to register their motion of no confidence against PNG Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill today.
Initial reports suggested the vote of no confidence would be tested today. However the Acting Clerk of Parliament Kala Aufa said there would be a normal parliament session today.
Aufa said under normal processes, leaders would need to wait for May 16 for the vote.
