FIJI’s Parliament will be reduced by one member after the death of Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh was announced today.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that Singh died in Brisbane.
He praised the long time trade and National Federation Party member for dedicated service to the workers and people of Fiji.
The National Federation Party won five places in Parliament in the 2022 elections.
Under usual parliamentary process Parmod Chand, a Labasa-based bus operator and Assemblies of God pastor would have replaced Singh.
But Fiji’s processes dictate that there are no replacements after three years and six months of the parliament’s term.
Chand polled 1857 votes and would have been the next eligible NFP member as announced earlier by Islands Business.
