SOLOMON Islands Prime Minister Mathew Wale has held bilateral talks with visiting US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, focusing on strengthening ties and the return of the US Peace Corps programme.
The Peace Corps, which was active in the Solomon Islands during the 1990s, is expected to renew its contribution to communities through areas including education, health and sports.
Prime Minister Wale described the visit as a reflection of the “historic and enduring partnership” between the two countries, built on shared history, democratic values and strong people-to-people links.
The leaders also discussed Solomon Islands’ economic development priorities and areas where the United States could provide support. Landau reaffirmed the US commitment to working with Solomon Islands to advance stability, prosperity and people-centred development across the region.
