DALTON Tagelagi has been re-elected Prime Minister of Niue, extending his leadership following the May 2 general election.
The Niue Assembly confirmed his appointment on Thursday under the country’s non-partisan system, where Members of the Assembly are elected as independents and then vote for the Prime Minister and Speaker.
Newly elected Speaker Billy Talagi was also confirmed during the sitting.
Tagelagi, who has led Niue since 2020, continues into a new parliamentary term following the Assembly’s formal endorsement after the national poll determined its composition.
His leadership is expected to maintain policy continuity, with ongoing focus on economic recovery, climate resilience, and regional engagement across the Pacific.
Niue’s election outcome reinforces stability in government as the small island nation moves into its next legislative term.
