LATVIA has appointed Ratu Savenaca Seniloli as its honorary consul in Fiji and the Pacific.

Senior government ministers Sakiasi Ditoka, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, and members of the diplomatic corps joined guests alongside Latvian Ambassador Samija Šerifa, who opened the consulate.

Fijian Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Raijeli Taga, said the Latvia-Fiji links pointed to the potential for socio-economic growth and cooperation.

Seniloli has held senior positions in major Fijian companies, including Fiji Water and Rewa Dairy.

Latvia’s economy, which is growing faster than average European economies, is underpinned by a strong base in the knowledge and ICT communications sector.

Defence and environmental science also present good opportunities for Latvia to share its experience with Fiji, which would feed over into digital technologies, clean energy, forest management, and sustainable construction, according to ambassador Šerifa.
