Aileen Burness

THE Pacific Farmer Organisations (PFO) has appointed Aileen Burness as its chair – the first woman to hold the role.

Burness becomes the third chair in a significant moment as the organisation looks ahead to 2026, the United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer.

Sheis widely respected across Fiji and the Pacific region for her longstanding contribution to agriculture, particularly in floriculture. With her late husband,  Don,  Burness, played a key role in supporting farmer organisations and advancing agricultural development in several Pacific countries.

Known for her strong work ethic, practical leadership, and commitment to results, Mrs. Burness brings deep experience and dedication to the role.

Burness replaces Minoru Nishi, who has served on the board since the organisation’s establishment 12 years ago. Nishi stepped down as chair but will continue to serve on the board, providing continuity and ongoing support.
