Fiji bids farewell to US Ambassador

FIJIAN President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, bid farewell to outgoing United States Ambassador Marie Damour, during a courtesy call at the State House.

President Lalabalavu, on behalf of the Government and people of Fiji, expressed appreciation for Damour’s exemplary service and key role in strengthening Fiji-U.S. relations.

He commended Damour’s leadership and active engagement, stating:

“Ambassador Damour has played an instrumental role in enhancing the cooperation between Fiji and the United States. Her commitment to advancing shared priorities, particularly in climate resilience, maritime security, and development support, has made a lasting impact on our relationship.”

“Fiji is grateful for her service and the genuine friendship she has extended to our nation.”

The President also acknowledged Damour’s support for regional stability, humanitarian efforts, and community-based initiatives.

Damour thanked President Lalabalavu and the Fiji Government for their support during her tenure.

“It has been an honour to serve in Fiji and to work alongside the government in advancing the goals we share for a secure, resilient, and prosperous Pacific region. I am deeply appreciative of the warm hospitality shown to me throughout my tenure,” she said.

“The United States remains committed to supporting Fiji in its national priorities, and I leave confident that our partnership will continue to flourish.”
