Two weeks to Samoa poll

Date looms …. Samoa goes to the polls in two weeks.

SAMOA goes to the polls in two weeks with 101,981 voters registered.

Electoral Commissioner Toleafoa Tuiafelolo John Stanley said the final number was confirmed after the removal of the names of dead voters and people who had moved abroad.

The Commission also allowed the inclusion on the rolls of 16 Falealupo whose legality had been challenged after the registration process.

Toleafoa said 10,000 voters registered online, with the majority being locals and 400 from abroad.

Pre-polling will begin on August 27 with one polling booth available in all 51 constituencies.

Voters will also be able to cast their votes at any polling booth if they cannot travel to their registered election venue.

All district votes will be counted at the polling booths at the close of election on August 29, and special votes will be opened at the Electoral Office at Tuana’imato when the official count begins. Toleafoa said preparations were running smoothly, and training for election scrutineers was underway.
