No bail variation for former Fiji A-G

No go … court refuses Khaiyum’s travel bid.

FIJI’S Chief Justice has rejected an application by the country’s former Attorney-General to travel overseas for medical treatment.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has been charged with abuse of office for abuse of office linked to payments made to the former Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem.

Khaiyum sought a bail variation, claiming he had a heart condition which needed attention in Singapore. Medical experts have told the court that Khaiyum could receive attention for his condition in Fiji.

Chief Justice Salesi Temo rejected the request and the case will resume on September 15.
