FIJI has issued an arrest warrant for its reinstated Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, who faces charges of abuse of office.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) filed for Pryde’s extradition from New Zealand to face one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of causing a loss.
The matter has been stood down when Magistrate Yogesh Prasad declared his interest in the proceedings. Prasad said he worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for over 11 years.
Pryde – a key figure in Fiji’s government under Frank Bainimarama – was recently reinstated. In February he told local media that a return to Fiji was possible after FICAC concluded its investigations.
