AIR Niugini has signed a firm order with Airbus for two more latest generation A220-300 aircraft.

Papua New Guinea’s national carrier earlier placed an order for six aircraft. In addition, it has lease agreements three A220-300s from US-based lessor Azorra.

Air Niugini’s Chief Executive Officer, Gary Seddon, said the A220 would form the backbone of its domestic and regional fleet, replacing the aging Fokker 100 fleet.

“As we continue to forecast strong growth, we have made the decision to increase our orders for this fuel-efficient type, bringing a whole new level of efficiency and comfort for our operations,” Seddon said.
