ELEVEN people have been arrested for allegedly destroying a ballot box and assaulting a Papua New Guinea police officer during the Aitape-Lumi by-elections last week.
Assistant Police Commissioner, border command, Steven Francis said people would be charged.
“The only unfortunate disturbance occurred at Pou village polling station, where a damaged ballot box was reported, forcing an early closure of the polling booth,” he said.
Francis said security personnel quickly contained the situation, and the by-election was progressing well.
