As French President Macron flew into Noumea for 18 hours, there were sharp divisions between political leaders – and that’s just on the anti-independence side! Even though both parties support New Caledonia remaining in the French Republic, Macron’s stopover sparked a series of spats between Les Loyalistes, led by Sonia Backès and Nicolas Metzdorf, and Calédonie ensemble, led by Philippe Gomès.
