SPBD Fiji Members Meet with Rahama Wright
The US Embassy hosted American social entrepreneur Rahama Wright in Fiji for the “Prosperity through Community” speaker series. Wright,
founder and CEO of Shea Yeleen represented the US and shared her expertise in building sustainable, community empowering businesses.
SPBD Fiji, along with organisations like Duavata Collective, University of the South Pacific, Fiji Agromarketing, and Fiji Commerce and Employers
Federation collaborated with Wright on workshops and meetings aimed at enhancing Fiji’s SME growth, access to international markets, and
sustainable development.
Through this engagement, SPBD Fiji expects to gain insights into scalable business models, best practices for market expansion, and strategies
to strengthen local economic resilience – ultimately supporting Fiji’s efforts to foster inclusive economic growth. This meeting was organised by
Joana Tabua as part of her participation in the Pacific Young Leaders Program.
Board Meeting
SPBD Fiji’s Board comprises Gregory Casagrande, James Young, William Hamlen, Elrico Munoz, and Lorraine Seeto. The Board met on 22 May
2025 to discuss the outcome for the year 2024 and the first quarter performance for 2025. Plans for the next six months were also discussed in
detail. In attendance were Polly Kelekis, Chief Operating Officer; Sandeep K. Lohani, Chief Financial Officer; and Casey Moran, Director of Strategic
Finance.
Preparation for Team Building
This year’s SPBD Fiji Team Building will be held at Duadua Beach Resort from 25–26 July 2025. The theme is ‘Humility is Honesty Without
Pretence’. Rakiraki Branch will be the host this year, and the welcome dinner marks the start of the hospitality and warmth of Rakiraki. This is the
time of year when all staff Fijiwide will come together and participate in a series of activities.
Team SPBD Fiji has been divided into five teams – Black, Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow. The competition will be friendly and fierce, with a healthy
team spirit. From presentations to cultural performances, meal preparation, and Greek attire from different eras depicting Greek culture, there will
definitely be lots to learn and enjoy. Competition has commenced with various levels of participation and enthusiasm. What one gets out of team
building depends on the energy that one puts into the process. You reap what you sow! Team SPBD Fiji looks forward to the prizes awarded to
individuals and the winning team will be in for a great surprise! The team is eagerly looking forward to it, not only because it is part of their Key
Performance Indicator (KPI), but also as a time to experience a new environment, bond, refresh, reflect, and revitalise for the work ahead with
humility.
The preliminary points after three rounds of contesting show that the competition is intense, and the best team will win with Team SPBD Fiji’s
blessings.
