Rain closes polling stations

TWENTY polling stations outside the capital Suva have been shut down due to inclement weather, the Supervisor of Elections announced this hour.

Invoking section 47 of the Electoral Act, Mohammed Saneem said the decision would affect some 6094 voters.

Saneem said polling would continue at these venues which are located between Nausori, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Levuka in the eastern, central and northern regions of the main island Viti Levu at a date to be announced later.

More than 500,000 voters were registered to cast their vote today.
