SPBD COVID-19 BUSINESS RESILIENCE

OF THE YEAR 2020

Elina Sigadrodro of Valelevu Sisters
in Action is winner of the SPBD
COVID-19 Business Resilience of the
Year 2020 award.

This special award honours SPBD
members who have displayed
resilience and adaptability to the new
normal brought about by the COVID-19
pandemic.
Elina has been a SPBD member for
more than 10 years and her businesses
include tailoring, patchwork, quilting
and screen printing. When demand
for these products declined due to
the COVID-19 pandemic, she turned
to babysitting and jewellery making to
supplement her income.
“Tailoring was affected as there were
no gatherings, no church functions
and no family functions,” Elina said.
She went from making 15 sulu and
jaba or dresses a week to none.
Undettered, Elina started making and
selling earrings and dress rings. This
has enabled her to keep some income
coming in during these difficult times.
