KALOKOLEVU Just a few minutes outside Lami sits Kalokolevu
village, the site of SPBD’s longest running centre
CENTRE: 10 in Fiji. It was one of the first centres established
in 2011 and is still running strongly today,
YEARS WITH despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.
Susana Silikiwai is the Centre Chief, and an
SPBD original member.
“When I first heard about SPBD opening a
centre in Kalokolevu, I begged if I could join,”
she says. “As you will see, I am a good and loyal
member. In my first year with SPBD, I took a loan
of $1,000. In my second year, I was supposed
to take $1,500 but I was given $2,000 instead. I
think it was because my payment, savings and
attendance were good. Every year, my savings
grew. I was one of those who took and tried the
SME loan. Nothing is hard in this world when
you serve a living God.”
“I’m grateful to SPBD for helping me start up my
business and extend my house when I was faced
with a lot of hardships, especially financially.
I was able to support my grandchildren’s
education; some are now working and some
are just staying home. I have 25 grandchildren
