Tonga Communications Corporation – OUR EVOLUTION
Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) continues to enhance
communications in the Kingdom of Tonga, with more yet to come in
the future. In 2024, TCC saw a gateway of opportunity to enhance
customer experience while becoming competitive in the market. This
is partially their contribution to developing digital communications in
the Kingdom.
“Unlimited is the new norm”
TCC moved on to launch an Unlimited Plan for Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line (ADSL), a broadband internet technology that
utilizes existing copper telephone lines to provide faster internet
speeds. Over time, TCC has carefully curated home internet plans
for the people of Tonga with affordability and quality in mind.
This service encourages customers to enjoy browsing, streaming,
and downloading without hesitation regarding data limits. It
guarantees a strong signal and uptime, ensuring customers are
connected and can access the internet through a secure network.
“Faster Download & More Connectivity with 5G”
On December 4th, 2024, Tonga Communications Corporation
launched the 5G Network in the Kingdom. Tonga is now reaching a
milestone of 5G network connectivity while in the Kingdom. With this
launch, TCC confirmed 5G Network locations are Kolofo’ou, Fasi,
Ngele’ia, Vaololoa, Houmakelikao, Kolomotu’a, and Havelu.
A live test of the 5G network was conducted at one of TCC’s NOC
offices in Kolofo’ou, where the public, via livestream, witnessed the
testing download speed of 854 Mbps and an upload speed of 57.2
Mbps.
However, Chief Executive Officer for TCC, Mr. Veikoso, stated that
although the speed may vary depending on some conditions such
as distance from the tower and network traffic load, customers will
automatically drop down to 4G or 3G when they are outside of the
5G coverage. TCC has yet to confirm the next phase of expanding
to the rest of Tonga.
“Connect from wherever with Broadband Anywhere”
On March 22, 2024, Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC)
launched Broadband Anywhere, a groundbreaking product that is
set to provide consumers in remote and isolated areas in Tonga
with full access to next-generation broadband. It is said that with
this satellite-operated service, it commits to providing universal,
affordable, and high-quality broadband services anywhere in the
Kingdom.
Mr. Veikoso continued to mention that, “Collaborating with Kacific
on this project gives TCC the benefit of enhancing its customers’
experience when it comes to internet services. It also aligns with our
vision of providing improved service delivery and ensuring that we
remain Tonga’s first choice for digital communications.”
