Organic agriculture, simply put, is a system of farming that sustains the health of
soils, ecosystems and people. It is a return to traditional farming without synthetic
chemicals, aided by modern science, tools and technologies.
The Pacific Organic and Ethical Trade Community [POETCom], housed in the Land
Resources Division [LRD] of the Pacific Community (SPC) is the peak body for
organic agriculture in the region. We manage the Pacific Organic Standard and
Guarantee Scheme on behalf of the Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry.
Organic farming includes the potential to access value added niche markets, and
much more. Organics is key to sustaining our Pacific Island cultures and
communities, passing on traditional knowledge and farming practices, improving
farmer livelihoods, people’s health and the environment of our precious Pacific
           Islands.
“The post-COVID era is seeing as yet unrealized opportunities for organic

tourism in the region is close to pre-COVID levels or higher in some cases,
combined with the increasing costs of importing food and ongoing
interest in health and wellness, resulting in opportunities for local organic
