TAHITI United pulled off a huge upset against fourth-placed Solomon Kings FC in the OFC Pro League in Suva last night.
Solomon Kings captain Jez Lofthouse scored the first goal in the 27th minute but Tahiti United leveled the scores just before half time with a strong strike by Tevita Waranaivalu from outside the box.
Tahiti increased the tempo in the second half and Germain Haewegene scored two fantastic goals.
Joseph Athale joined the scorers’ list before Haewegene scored his hattrick as Tahiti made good use of the ball when in possession.
The match ended 5-1 to Tahiti.
The second match started well for Vanuatu who had most of the possession but the league’s top goal scorer, Alex Saniel, could not score.
After a scoreless first half, Azaraiah Soromon scored for Vanuatu just six minutes into the second half. Although Vanuatu United controlled the pace, South Island’s Ry McLeod and Ryan Feutz slotted a goal each eight minutes of added time.
South Island United won 2 – 1.
