MODERNISING aviation infrastructure is central to unlocking new tourism opportunities and regional growth.
“The plan includes feasibility studies for a new airport in Yasawa and runway upgrades in the Lau Group,” said Viliame Gavoka, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation of Fiji.
“These improvements aim to enhance convenience and open up remote destinations for tourism.
“Better connectivity is expected to drive more equitable economic opportunities across Fiji.”
He said infrastructure development supported the broader goal of sustainable tourism expansion and competitiveness.
Linking infrastructure to economic inclusion ensures tourism growth benefits wider communities.
“Upgraded airstrips and new airports facilitate access to less developed areas,” Gavoka said.
“This approach helps integrate local economies into the national tourism framework. It reflects a strategic commitment to resilience by diversifying visitor locations.
“The government’s focus on connectivity underscores its role in maintaining Fiji’s market position.”
Partnerships and Future Vision
The Fiji Tourism Exchange (FTE) serves as a dynamic platform for collaboration, innovation, and sector resilience within the industry.
Strengthening industry relationships and innovation to secure long-term success.
Speaking at the Fiji Tourism Exchange, Gavoka said the event encouraged buyers, sellers, and media to build partnerships beyond transactional deals.
“It aims to foster idea exchange that supports tourism innovation and quality enhancement,’’ he said.
“The government recognises the tourism workforce’s role as the foundation of growth and excellence. This collaborative mindset is crucial for adapting to changing market demands and risks.”
He added Fiji’s tourism brand was built on connection, culture, and care, setting it apart in the market.
“The exchange encourages a shared vision for a tourism future that benefits all stakeholders,’’ he said.
“The government and industry leaders see this event as a catalyst for shaping policy and strategy.
“This vision supports Fiji’s goal to remain a top-quality and authentic destination in the Pacific region.”
