Vunidogoloa rejects PM

By Netani Rika

A VILLAGE forced to relocate due to rising sea levels has delivered a resounding rejection of Fiji’s Climate Change Minister, Rear-Admiral Frank Bainimarama.

Of the 68 votes polled at Vunidogoloa in Cakaudrove, 60 or 90.91 percent went to SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka. Bainimarama received one vote while the remaining votes went to other SODELPA candidates.

During the election campaign Bainimarama accused the villagers of failing to vote for him in 2014 despite being relocated by his government. But villagers have maintained that they funded more than 60 per cent of the relocation through the harvesting of trees on their land.

And in this election they have signaled their discontent by voting against Fiji First again.
