The New Zealand Council of Trades Unions and Unions Wellington will stage a protest in front of the Fiji High Commission in Wellington this Friday to show solidarity for Air Terminal Services workers at Nadi Airport who are currently locked in an industrial dispute with their employers.
About 250 ATS employees remain out of work since December 16th.
The NZTU says Friday’s protest is a call out for solidarity for their Fijian counterparts with international support mounting for the workers and their union.
Members of NZTU and Unions Wellington will protest outside the Fiji High Commission in the city and also deliver a letter of support for the ATS workers to the High Commission.
This Friday’s protest will come ahead of a planned march in Nadi on Saturday by the Fiji Trades Union Congress, organised also in support for the ATS workers.
At a meeting late last month, the FTUC had resolved to continue to support the ATS workers and to “be the voice of the workers and will seek assistance through international ties.”
The FTUC had also agreed to take all legitimate steps, use all resources, including industrial action and solidarity support including a national strike, should the impasse continue.
