New faces in Fiji cabinet

NINE FijiFirst Members of parliament are expected to return to Cabinet.

It is likely that Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama will be responsible for Foreign Affairs and Finance. 

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be tasked with the Economy, Public Enterprises,the Civil Service and Communications.

Mereseni Vuniwaqa, Osea Naiqamu and Semi Koroilavesau retain their portfolios at the Ministries of Women, Forests and Fisheries respectively.

Inia Seruiratu moves from Agriculture to Defence and National Security while Praveen Bala will shift from Infrastructure to Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, Youth and Sport.

Mahendra Reddy,who was at Waterways, takes on the additional portfolios of Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development. 

Rosy Akbar moves from Health to Education while Jone Usamate goes to Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services.

New ministers are:

Premila Kumar – Industry, Trade, Tourism, Local Government, Housing and Community Development

Ashnel Sudhakar – Lands and Mineral Resources

Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete – Health and Medical Services.

The assistant ministers are:
Vijay Nath – Local Government, Housing and Community Development

Alvick Maharaj – Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, Youth and Sport

Jale Sigarara – Agriculture, Waterways, Rural and Maritime Development

Viam Pillay – Agriculture, Waterways, Rural and Maritime Development

Veena Bhatnagar -Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation

Joseph Nitya Nand – Education, Heritage and Arts

Alex OÇonnor – Health and Mediacl Services

George Vegnathan – Sugar Industry.
