HONIARA, Solomon Islands --- Solomon Islands Caretaker Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua has acknowledged Papua New Guinea (PNG) Educational Institutions for training Solomon Islanders with knowledge and skills necessary for developing our country.
Dr Sikua and his delegation visited a number PNG tertiary institutions and colleges during his four-day visit to Port Moresby last week where he held talks with Solomon Islanders studying there.
Visits were made to the Catholic Theology Institute at Bomana and the Pacific Adventist University (PAU) where a good number of our students are currently studying.
Students at the University of Papua New Guinea and Taurama Medical School held talks with the Prime Minister at the newly opened Solomon Islands Chancery in Waigani on Saturday.
Dr Sikua was impressed by the unwavering support rendered by the PNG Institutions and government to the Solomon students. “The development of human resources is extremely vital for the development of any country as we all are aware and Solomon Islands is no exception”.
“I am certain that upon the completion of their studies - they will be equipped with skills and knowledge necessary to contribute positively to the development of Solomon Islands and Pacific Region as a whole,” Prime Minister Sikua said.
Solomon Islands Government is very thankful to Papua New Guinea and its tertiary Institutions for the role they have played in training Solomon Islanders.
Dr Sikua said many prominent Solomon Islands leaders and professionals trained in Papua New Guinea have played important roles in the development of Solomon Islands over the years.
